Al Mahwit is one of Yemen’s most celebrated coffee regions, with farms perched at elevations between 2,100 and 2,300 meters. This altitude combined with cool, dry air and steep mountainous terrain produces coffees known for their clarity, florality, and deep sweetness. Through Qima’s local programming, women in the region have gained access to training, governance roles, and direct market platforms. In 2024, eighteen women-produced lots from Al Mahwit featured in Qima’s Best of Yemen international auction marking a quiet but powerful shift from subsistence to recognition on the global stage. This is a region where heritage meets progress, and where every cup carries the signature of place, people, and persistence.
