Al Mahjar, literally translated to "exile," is a name believed to reflect the village's remoteness. According to local claims, coffee cultivation in the region dates back over 400 years, characterised by high altitudes, terraced farms, and the use of traditional methods. Qima has been working with farmers from this region for the past seven years. Water is scarce, and the villagers depend on a few rainwater reservoirs to sustain their crops. The climate is one of stark contrasts—summers bring mild, temperate days, while winters descend with a sharp, cold bite that tests the endurance of both plants and people. Al Mahjar is a place shaped by its elevation and history, where life is measured not just by the passing of seasons but by every stubborn root that continues to endure.
